Jay’s program will be on the construction of a Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy is traditionally a small, lockable, highly decorated wooden box thatis used to store tea leaves. They were introduced in Europe from China as a way to secure and store extremely expensive tea leaves in private houses. The American colonies expanded on the design and construction usingmahogany, rosewood, tortoiseshell, brass, silver with extensive embellishment.
The photo shown above is courtesy of Jay Stallman. This is the piece Jay will demonstrate andexplain the build. Jay will also demonstrate making the eagle patera, shell patera, banding, inlet corners, and hardware installation.
The program will be Saturday March 22, 2025 at the Woodcraft in Chattanooga,TN from 9AM until all questions are answered.
