Good morning everyone. Just a reminder, this Saturday is our spring meeting. I think Ray, Chris and the folks at the Moses-Myers House will make this a very worthwhile event. And thank you Ed Sontag, owner of Woodcraft, for his kindness in letting us use his largest classroom, providing give-aways, and including us in the weekend sales. Following are notes and an agenda:

Notes:
  • Guests are welcome, especially prospective members.
  • Cost is $30, check or cash. This money will go for honorariums to our presenters and a donation to the Moses-Myers House.
  • Bring your own coffee. Snacks will be provided.
  • Lunch spots around Woodcraft include Firehouse subs, Panera, Sonic, McDonalds. In downtown Norfolk, there's the historically significant Doumar's (1919 Monticello Avenue).
Agenda:
  • 9 am - Welcome, administrative notes
  • 9:30 - Show/tell (Chris Haycox - recently completed Pembroke table, Jim Francis - Edenton style ball/claw)
  • 10:15 - Chris Haycox; discussion on the design/construction of the banding used in the Bankson/Lawson secretary at the Moses-Myers house
  • 11:00 - Ray Journigan presentation on his "period" tea table (design, construction, carving) discussed in the latest issue of American Period Furniture. Also, check out Ray's Instagram page for construction highlights. Barry Payne and Jake Pell will also show their tables and provide a good discussion on issues/lessons learned.
  • 12:30 - Lunch (on your own) and travel to the Moses-Myers house (323 East Freemason Street, Norfolk). We can carpool from Woodcraft, and there's ample parking in the MacAuthur Mall parking garage.
  • 2 pm - Moses-Myers house tour
Thanks, and for questions feel free to contact me,
Jim Francis
