Can anyone recommend a book or other resource to find some inspiration for line and berry and other types of stringing patterns for inlay? I'm looking for something along the lines of Steve Latta's article in FineWoodworking illustrating his line & berry inlay pattern into his Pennsylvania Spice Box.  Thanks!  ...mike

Lee Ellen Griffith's "Pennsylvania Spice Boxes" has good photos of various spice box doors with stringing and line & berry.

Mike,
Lee Ellen Griffith wrote her dissertation on Line and Berry.  It is titled,

Line and Berry and Inlaid Furniture: A regional craft tradition in Pennsylvania, 1682-1790

I checked and it was on www.abebooks.com.  You can get it through UMI Reprints or Proquest as well.

It has several line drawings of various patterns for doors and drawer fronts as well as a good historical content.  She has a discussion on methodology which is not very accurate in my opinion but does provide some insights.  Margaret Schiffer has a few books on Chester County furniture as well.  They are helpful but expensive.  Hope this helps......Steve Latta

Hi Steve and Jeff,

Thank you very much for the pointers!  I appreciate your efforts to point me in the right direction.  ...mike
