Shellac finish won't adhere to walnut

I am french polishing a walnut blockfront. There are streaks where the shellac won't adhere. Any suggestions?

ended up brushing it and turned out ok.

Make sure you use dewaxed shellac.

New Member and first question. Why did brushing work when rubbing it out didn't? Thanks for any insight.
