Does anyone know what the shelf life is for Aniline Dye that is already mixed?  I have some mixed water based dye and was wondering if it can be used or if I should get some new.  It is Moser's.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

I've had aniline dye mixed in water and stored in glass jars for over 15 years without any noticeable degradation or "foreign body" growth due to bacteria, mold,  etc.  I used both Moser's and Lockwood brands in powdered form. Kept them in a cool and dry environment.

Brian,

I mix a gallon at a time but it is usually used within a couple of months and without any fading of color.  I did have one color sitting in a glass jar for several years and it did fade a little even when stored in a cabinet.  I mix and store my mixed stains in one gallon and one quart plastic containers purchased at Target and Wal Mart.  Glass works great until it slips out of your hand and shatters on the floor.  If you use glass containers avoid metal screw on tops as they will rust and become hard to unscrew.  That is why I switched to plastic.
