Ben Landon (Gene Landon's son) contacted me after his mother passed in April, and asked if I would help him sell Gene Landon's remaining tools. These are the tools Gene used daily at his workbench. The family held onto these when most everything else went to MJD for auctions in 2011 and 2012. If you aren’t familiar with Gene, I’ve included a picture from the cover of FWW.

My wife and I drove down at the beginning of June, and we loaded up our car with the tools to bring home so I could sort through everything. There are literally hundreds of carving and bench chisels. Going through everything is going to take some time, but I've started with the bench planes and Barr Bench Chisels.

I wanted to offer these to SAPFM member/followers before going to Facebook or eBay. If you are interested in any of them, contact me. I'll be pricing them based on what I see sold on eBay. I’ve spent some time cleaning up the planes, but no sharpening was required. The Barr chisels will need some work (I have a lot more pictures I can share if requested.) I did a quick cleaning and sharpening of the 5/8" so you can compare to the others. There is also a set of longer Barr Chisels (Firmers??) which I have't unboxed yet.
  1. Stanley No. 71 Router Plane

  4. Lie-Nielsen No. 4-1/2C Corregated Sole Smooth Plane
  5. Lie-Nielsen No. 62 Low Angle Jack Plane
  6. Barr Bench Chisel Set: 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" & 34"

Hey Tom, Any chance of any kind of donation to the SAPFM MID-YEAR silent auction that benefits SAPFM? It's a great tax benefit!

It's a great way to help the Society become stronger! I usually watch tool sales like this one a number of tool companies that send me emails for my business. As the year goes by between Mid-Year events, I'll sometimes see a deal and buy the tool and donate it to the silent auction. It just costs me a little change at the time and little effort plus it makes my accountant work a bit longer but it's a win, win, win.

Details of our Mid-Year event at Bob Van Dykes school in Connecticut on October 3rd, will be out soon in July and registration will be open at that time. How to get your donations to the silent auction with contacts will come also.

Thanks to members like you all helps make the Society strong!

Making those shavings one project at a time,
Jeff

All items have sold on eBay. If you are interested in his other tools do a search in eBay for "Gene Landon". I'm slowly getting things up there. If you see something on eBay of nterest, please contact me though a direct message at SAPFM for a better price.

I've sorted through Gene's carving tools. There are 111 Pfeil tools and 4 big Ashley Ilses available. In the process of doing the inventory I decided to go through my tools as well and have around 25 that will need a new home.

If you have any interest in carving tools, please send me a private note and I can send you a list.
