Each SAPFM chapter is familiar with what museums and must sees are in their area. This might be a good place to post your likely must see. Let's say within an easy one day trip.

Okay, I will play.
The Great Lakes Chapter

The Detroit Institute of Arts has a small, but very nice, collection of Early American Furniture.
The Toledo Art Museum has a smaller American collection, but riveting Dutch and Italian pieces.
The Henry Ford has a very good collection of furniture with much more shown in the houses in the village. (this used to be Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, but we're now supposed to call the entire complex : "The Henry Ford". )

I have left many out and I will try to add more soon.
I would hope other Virginia chapter members might add their recommendations also

Jeff, one other significant one springs immediately to my mind for the VA chapter:
- US State Dep't Diplomatic Reception Room  https://diplomaticrooms.state.gov/home.aspx
This one has been on my to-do list for far too long...maybe the VA and Chesapeake Chapters should organize a group tour?

BTW, the current Washingtonian has the Museum of the Shenandoah on their front cover as lead-in to a "hidden gems" article.

This is a great thread, but I wonder if we can capture it in a file on the members only page or somewhere it is not buried after a month one two?

Gateway Chapter

We have two excellent museums in the Gateway area.

1.  Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art - A renovated American wing has some great pieces, including John Townsend federal tables (icicle inlay) and an outstanding Massachusetts bombe chest on chest.  One large period room.  Incredible paintings.  Amazing asian art collection. Free to attend.

2.  St. Louis Museum of Art - A larger broader museum.  Several period rooms, outstanding American furniture.  Also free.

Both of these museums have been very accommodating to SAPFM and the people have been a pleasure to get to know.
