Gene Landon has a procedure for finishing with shellac. For the last step, he uses a coat of oil based stain such as Minwax which he applies liberally, allows to get tacky and then wipes off. He did an article about applying antique finishes to new pieces about 3 or 4 years ago in FWW and this was part of the technique. I've seen his pieces finished this way at Olde Mill and this seems to take the gloss of the shellac for a satin finish. Has anyone else tried this and is it successful?
