Dan,

I can't speak to the mid year conference tour, but I was there last year on one of the public tours and was allowed to take photos.  It is a fantastic collection.

I have been to Winterthur many times over the years, some with SAPFM, some on my own.  The official policy is no photographs in the period rooms. They have a gallery with some nice pieces that can be photographed.

Over the years, depending on the docent you get, they may allow you to photograph the period room pieces.  But that is not something you can count on.

This year, the attendees of the SAPFM mid-year conference were officially allowed to take photographs throughout the museum.  This was a first for the official policy.  It is not clear if it will occur again or not.  I believe that Steve Latta pushed for this and made the case that we are getting more acceptance in other museums.  Specifically MESDA where we literally could take the drawers out of a case piece, crawl under it, and ask to have the piece turned so we could see the back.  That is certainly the "upper end" of our access.  But hopefully this Winterthur experience will mark the beginning of more open access to SAPFM members.

Not sure why the E.L. Henson information is posted under this thread, but the actual URL to their site is

Yes, the 2014 mid-year meeting field trip will be to Deerfield.

This thread started last year when we went to Winterthur.
