?I began working wood as a hobbyist nearly 10 years ago. My interests fell in the realm of the Queen Anne and Chippendale, often right in the middle. I bought my first set of used hollows and rounds nearly 5 years ago. With a significant amount of work I was able to get the planes in the set that I chose working well.
With the introduction of the Lie-Nielsen produced video Making Side Escapement Planes by Larry Williams of Clark & Williams, planemaker floats by various outfits and tapered iron blanks also offered by Lie-Nielsen Toolworks, I made my own half set which I continue to use today. Since the release of the video I have been approached by a few people regarding making a similar set. I officially turned professional on March 27, 2010 at the Northeastern Woodworkers? Association 2010 Showcase.?

Sorry for the late posting about our Spring meeting but things came up.

The Del-Val Chapter held a Mid Spring meeting on May 21st at the Chuck Benders Acanthus Shop in Pottstown, PA. The meeting was well attended with over 20+ woodworkers. We had presentations given by Matt Bickford (Molding Planes) and Chuck Bender on (Carving) a Ball & Claw leg.

Matt Bickford of www.msbickford.com presentation on the making and using of Molding Planes was a very informative. Matt was demonstrating the process of making moldings with just Hollows and Rounds and helped people by answering any questions and guiding them through their hands on process. We would like to thank Matt for a very informative presentation. I think many people came away with a lot better understanding in the construction and use of molding planes.

Chuck bender of www.Acanthus.com was demonstrating the carving of a Ball and Claw leg. With all the inquires and questions around the process I feel he was able to help a lot of people to understand the proper way to carve the leg.

The Del-Val Chapter is working on another meeting that may be held at Jim Randi's Philadelphia Windsor Chair Shop www.jimrendi.com sometime in the Summer or early Fall. Work in progress.

We had a few guests that attended and took brochure?s to become members of the Sapfm organization. Having such meetings not only is great for local chapters but also is a way of presenting our organization to a guest who may be interested in joining.

We would like to thank Chuck Bender and his wife for hosting this meeting at the shop but also opening up their house for all the attendies.

Attached are twp pictures of Chuck Bender demonstrating carving of a Ball & Claw leg and Matt Bickford presenting molding planes.
