The Delaware Valley Chapter attended and demonstrated at the Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool event held at Hearne hardwoods in Oxford, PA on Friday 10/14 & Saturday 10/15. Many people attending the event showed a keen interest in the Sapfm organization. We passed out over 80 brochures to interested individuals and potential Sapfm members.

We setup two scheduled demonstrations each day and had many fill in discussions pertaining to furniture, tools, techniques and the Sapfm organization. At our booth we displayed for the first time the Delaware Valley Chapter banner along with furniture, boxes, tool chests, wine caddy, panel saw and other tools. These were on display for all to see and inspect. These were a great help in drawing people over to our booth.

SAPFM demonstrators & booth attendees were Jim Chesterton, Dave Dorey, William Duffield, Hamilton Elliott, Kerry Grubb, Rich Nimetz, John Previti, Jeff Saylor & Keith Smith.

Demonstrations were as follows;

Friday;
Dave Dorey Started off the day by discussing the proper lay out and carving of a fan. The fan then went on display throughout the event with many commenting on it.

Jeff Saylor?s discussion of the special tools used and layout practices for installing Line and Berry was very informative and enjoyable to watch. There were many comments on his spice box that was on display.

Saturday;
William Duffield displayed his unique work bench used for carving and then demonstrated carving a cabriole leg. The bench was an adaptation of the one Steve Latta had at one of the mid-season conferences.

Kerry Grubbs discussion on the tools and techniques for performing Hammer Veneering not only drew interest from the people but also from Smokey & Anegre, Hearne Hardwoods Lab greeters. They were checking out the glue pot.

Hearne Hardwoods had setup two scheduled log cutting events on Friday and Saturday using their 67? vertical Band saw. Seeing both the Black walnut and Koa logs being cut was very impressive.

Our thanks to Deneb Puchalaski of Lie-Nielsen and Rick Hearne and all at Hearne Hardwoods for having the Society of American Period Furniture Makers present at the event.
